The Wireless Age

Ah, the age of instant stars. Isn't it amazing how a particularly entertaining video can propel you into stardom? The Chocolate Rain guy was on Conan...or some late night talk show. Chris Crocker's tearful outburst on the injustices Britney is facing has been on the radio, numerous web articles and Jimmy Kimmel's show...actually it's not that hard to get on Kimmel's show. Soulja Boy loaded up his dance and set off a sensation across the country. I can't believe he has an instuctional DVD by the way. Speaking of Soulja Boy, I can't hate on his success anymore. It was somewhat genius how he did it...I can still hate on his being number 1. How is UGK's Players Anthem not number 1 right now?

We are not in the first stages of this new age, kiddies. It's been in the works for years. We are, however, seeing it begin it's flight into astronomical proportions. Television and radio is being replaced by the internet. It happens every fifty or so years. Radio was replaced by movies which was replaced by television which is being replaced by the internet. I learned that in my film class last semester. See, I am learning. I know what you're thinking. Everyone doesn't have a computer in their household. Oh, they will. Not everyone had a television set the first decade they were put on the market. Now, there is 2.1 sets per household in America. It is only a matter of time.

What does that mean, America? It means the internet will be the new tool for massive mind control...well, it already is but soon, YouTube will be flooded with advertisments, consumerism will creep into every online community once they figure out that is where most people spend their time. It has already started. MySpace and Buzznet are flooded with ads and giveaways. Marketing agencies are coming up with new ways to sell products to you without you even noticing.

It's a scary thing when you think about it. Oh yeah, and isn't a bit disturbing that they had a journal called The Wireless Age in 1919? That is a picture of one of the covers up top.
